Alexandra and Christian flew all the way over to the stunning Greek island of Syros to get married surrounded with their nearest and dearest. As an Edinburgh-based destination wedding photographer I love travelling around Europe capturing beautiful weddings. I’ve photographed a lot of weddings on the Greek islands now and Syros is up there with one of my favourites. Syros is the capital of the Cyclades islands and has stunning architecture, colourful buildings, beautiful light and luxurious beaches. A destination wedding photographer’s dream!

I flew over from Scotland having shot a wedding a couple of days before in Edinburgh to meet up with Alex and Christian at their venue. We chatted about the wedding, drank a few beers and had a swim in that stunning blue Aegean sea. It’s a great way to do a pre-wedding consultation!

Alexandra’s father is Greek, so it was only right that they had a Greek Orthodox wedding complete with the traditional ceremony, musicians leading Alex and the bridal party to the church and one heck of a party!

I started off with groom and bride preparations in the afternoon at Hermes Hotel, a beautiful Hotel which is right at the harbour in the main town centre of Ermoupolis. I loved getting the girls on the roof for some windy shots with the town and sea in the backdrop. Stunning!

Greek weddings are amazing and quite different to UK or American weddings. for example, the bride is walking through the town and up to the church with music. Such a lovely touch! We headed up to The Church of the Resurrection of the Christ. Its stunning inside and has beautiful views of down town Ermopolis, Syros Harbour and the ocean.

We headed off to my favourite beach restaurant & bar venue in Syros, Ono Concept for the meal and evening party, but stopped off near the coastline for some more couples portraits. I particularly enjoyed chasing after Alex’s veil as it came out of her hair and flew away! That was a workout in itself!

Ono Concept is a gorgeous wedding venue and offers incredible food, Amazing cocktails and a great wine selection. All to be enjoyed beside a luxurious beach and clear blue water. It’s bliss! For Syros wedding photographers, or a travelling wedding photographer in Syros, it really doesn’t get much better than this.

We partied the night away until the very early hours and celebrated like there was no tomorrow. Because when you have a destination wedding in Greece and you are in holiday mode, you can do that!
