Gary and Lynsey have always had a love for Santorini and it becomes clear when you talk to them that they adore the place. As an Edinburgh based destination wedding photographer, I was absolutely over the moon to receive the enquiry to shoot Lynsey and Gary's wedding. As a wedding photographer in Santorini, you have stunning light and incredible views to work with. The dream really! Santorini is an island that I also know very well, having been married here to my Greek wife in 2010. No matter how many times you visit the place, it always takes your breath away. If you’ve never been, promise me you’ll make it happen at least once in your life!
The couple were joined by close friends and family in a celebration that lasted a full weekend. The Architects Villas is in between Imerovigli and Oia near the north of Santorini and boasts spectacular views of the caldera. The perfect place to host an intimate and wedding. Lynsey and her bridal party gang started preparations around midday with gift exchanging, some tequila sampling and a lot of laughs! Oh, and some posing on the terracing! Gary and his boys turned up a little after to get all kilted up and ready to brave the Greek heat in tartan. I’ve been there myself, it’s tough!! The ceremony was absolutely beautiful a very intimate affair with family and friends looking on as they witnessed their favorite couple against the deep blue santorini sky.
Santorini can be an extremely busy place, even in off-season months, so I was keen to get the couple away for some portraits as quickly as I could. We went to Imerovigli which is just a short drive from where we were in Oia (or near Oia). The views are absolutely incredible in Santorini no matter where you are but I've always particularly loved the spot as you have white church roof tops and sprawling coastlines to work with. Lynsey and Gary were absolutely brilliant stars allowing me to pull them up onto church rooftops and climb up walls. Well sometimes it takes a bit of work even from the bride and groom to get the great shots! When you think of Santorini, you think of sunsets so I was eager to get them to another spot near the beautiful resort of Rockabella to watch the sun go down. Unbelievably, we got back to the car and had a flat tyre.. What?! Not a problem, the videographer, Nikos and I changed the tyre over and zoomed off to Rockabella and got some brilliant shots. Such a brilliant time, even with the small setback!
Back over at The Architects Villas, Gary and Lynsey and the family all enjoyed a wonderful meal and it was then time to party! The Diamond Rock Wedding Planners are based in Santorini and did an amazing job of organising the wedding and put on a brilliant evening party for all the wedding guests! A bunch of fun Scottish people in Santorini. Let’s just say it was a blast beyond belief! Plate smashing, dancing and a whole lot of love. This wedding had it all.
